Vocolot, an outstanding women's a cappella ensemble, will perform a Saturday Night Concert at Congregation Tifereth Israel in Columbus on Saturday, February 6 - at 7:30 p.m. VOCOLOT brings a joyous fusion of folk, jazz and cantorial vocal traditions into the contemporary a cappella world.

Their music, rooted in universal heart, social conscience and Jewish soul, communicates a powerful vision of world peace and reconciliation.  They sing in English, Hebrew, Ladino, Yiddish, and Arabic, blending lush harmonies, soaring melodies and global percussion in original works and new renderings of ancient songs and texts.  In addition to director Cantor Linda Hirschhorn, the members of VOCOLOT (a quartet) include award-winning singer-songwriter Julia Bordenaro, percussionist Liz Stuart (also a sound designer and video game producer!) and  Shana Levy, an accomplished singer and dancer.  Tickets are just $10 -- $5 for students and children - available from the Synagogue at 253-8523, 1354 E Broad St.

On Friday, February 5, (the day before the concert),  Tifereth Israel Cantor Jack Chomsky will present jointly with Cantor Hirschhorn a very special Service of the Spirit.  Service of the Spirit, presented occasionally at the Synagogue, is a Carlebach-style davenen of exceptional joy and beauty.  The cantors will be joined in singing by members of Tifereth Israel's Choir and KOLEINU, the Jewish Community Choir.  Cantor Linda Hirschhorn, the author of two songbooks and eight recordings, is Cantor of Temple Beth Shalom in San Leandro, California.  The service begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a delicious Shabbat Dinner at 7:15 p.m. for just $10 per person.

Events like this are made possible through the support of the synagogue's Cultural Arts Sponsors.  The Cultural Arts Committee is chaired by Matthew Kennedy.  For more information about these programs, contact Kristin Bohardt at Tifereth Israel - 614-253-8523 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
