On Friday, Feb. 5, Cantor Linda Hirschhorn will preside for the Service of the Spirit at Tifereth Israel. Hirschhorn, the author of two songbooks and eight recordings, is cantor of Temple Beth Shalom in San Leandro, Calif. She'll join Cantor Jack Chomsky for the 6:00 p.m. service, which will include singing by and with members of our choir. Following the service will be a Shabbat dinner at 7:15 p.m. The cost is $10 per person.

The main event of the weekend will be a concert featuring VOCOLOT on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. VOCOLOT brings a joyous fusion of folk, jazz and cantorial vocal traditions into the contemporary a cappella world. Their music, rooted in universal heart, social conscience and Jewish soul, communicates a powerful vision of world peace and reconciliation. They sing in English, Hebrew, Ladino, Yiddish, and Arabic, blending lush harmonies, soaring melodies and global percussion in original works and new renderings of ancient songs and texts. In addition to Cantor Hirschhorn, the members of VOCOLOT include award-winning singer-songwriter Julia Bordenaro, percussionist Liz Stuart (also a sound designer and video game producer) and Shana Levy, an accomplished singer and dancer.

Events like this are made possible in large part through the support of our Cultural Arts Sponsors. A contribution of $100 provides two reserved seats for the concert and two places for the dinner on Friday night, as well as recognition in the concert program and attendant publicity, but most importantly the knowledge that you are making great programming available to everyone at Tifereth Israel. If you become a Cultural Arts Hero for $500, you'll be helping us that much more. We'll provide four tickets and four places for Friday night, and we can be flexible according to your needs and preferences.

Tickets will be available for the concert for $10, $5 for students.  And as indicated above, the Shabbat dinner is also priced at $10 per person.
