Marvin Sedley Grossman passed away December 25, 2009. Born on October 9, 1923, and raised with very fond memories, in Zanesville, Ohio. Marvin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Bernard and Lillian Grossman, and caring grandparents, Henry and Fannie Milder, his special brothers-in-law, Daniel B. Waitzman and Leo C. Waitzman. He is survived by his very loving, caring wife, and his best friend of 56 years, Beatrice (Bea) Grossman; "his number one son," Stuart Grossman, loving daughter and son-in-law, Lillian Grossman and Steven Elliott; caring sister-in-law, Rita Waitzman; special nephews, Jay and Steven Waitzman; and special niece, Karen Lazarow; as well as numerous other wonderful relatives and special friends. Marvin's face lit up every time he met or crossed paths with someone who told him they were from Zanesville, Ohio. Marvin had many loves: his family and friends, helping others, volunteering, and playing softball. Marvin attended Lash High School in Zanesville and proudly served in the Air Force. He was stationed in India during World War II and often recalled the special army buddies that he had. He worked and retired from North American Rockwell as a sheet metal supervisor. Marvin also was proud to work and retire from Daniel's Pharmacy at Main Street and Ohio Avenue with his brother-in-law, Daniel Waitzman. Not only did Marvin play softball for more than 40 years in the AK League at the Columbus Jewish Center as a left-handed pitcher, he also played on the Amigo Club Senior Softball Team later in life. Along with his son, he loved to watch the "big boys" play softball at Berliner Park in the summertime. And as such, Marvin believed that you only circle the bases of life one time. Marvin was a proud member of Congregation Agudas Achim and Brotherhood, Charity Newsies, South Gate Masonic Lodge, the Amigo Club, the Leo Yassenoff Columbus Jewish Center, and Jewish War Veterans; and past Commander of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association. A special gratitude of thanks to his wonderful doctors throughout the many years, Dr. Alan Weinberg and Dr. James Soldano, as well as his specialized doctors, the staff at Mt. Carmel East Hospital and the Wexner Heritage Village for the care and concern that was shown to him during his life. The Grossman family would like to thank its wonderful relatives and friends for the care, concern, generosity, and good deeds that they have shown throughout the years. Funeral services were Monday, December 28, at the Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E. Main St., with Rabbi Cary Kozberg officiating. Burial followed at New Agudas Achim Cemetery. Memorial contributions would truly be an honor and can be made to Charity Newsies, Leo C. Waitzman Memorial Scholarship fund at the OSU College of Pharmacy, the Wexner Heritage Village or the Shalom House in Marvin's memory.
